Hey Folks,
So, for my participation in Jim Goldstein’s annual photos of the year presentation, I thought I’d roll along with some of my personal favorites.
The northern lights were fantastic all year, and we had some great opportunities on our trips. Way too much fun shooting these all night long. The great grizzly bears or brown bears of Katmai never ease to amaze, and we had some excellent trips there. Polar bears are always a treat to photograph, as were the bald eagles of Haines and the backcountry trips to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Gates of the Arctic National Park are always special.
And this year, I came closer than ever to photographing a wolverine. Way, way way too close! Maybe next year. 🙂
So, without further ado, here are some images from this year
- One of my favorite spots to photograph the northern lights. March was a real treat this past spring, and I’m looking forward to seeing the lights again this coming year.
- Packrafting Nizina River, Wrangell – St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Alaska.
- Sea kayaking with icebergs, Icy Bay, Wrangell – St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Alaska.
- A brown bear stands on a drifting whale carcass (Fin whale) and tears at the carcass. Kinak Bay, Katmai National Park, Alaska.
- A bald eagle banking around and coming in for a Chum salmon on the Chilkat River, near Haines, Alaska.
- Always a treat to see the Arrigetch Peaks come out, particularly when you’re camped right beneath them!
- This cute cub nursing from his mother in Hallo Bay was a treat to photograph for our group.
- Packrafting down the Alatna River is so fun. A nice big easy flatware float through some stunning Alaska wilderness.
- Taking it all in. Stopping for a snack on the Goat Trail. Too much fun.
- We watched this young guy climb all over this dead wood, providing us with some really cool video and photography opportunities.
- Hiking the Bremner Mines – Iceberg Lake route from early July this year.
- Strong fall colors in the Brooks Range this year, better than most of the rest of the state.
- 2 male brown bears hard at play with killer fall color behind them. How much can it be?
- We always have some great photo opps for polar bears. These guys played and played and played. And then played some more!
- We had one of the best months of northern lights photography I’ve had in my life this past March. Looking forward to doing it all again.
Thanks everyone … all the best for 2016.
Cheers
Carl
